[결론]밝은 마음이 건강을 만든다!-종교에 귀의하라!
흔히 병마와 싸운다고 하는데, 병과 싸우려 들면 안 됩니다.
병은 병 나름대로 마음껏 놀게 놔 두고, 병에 이끌리지 말고
우리는 내 밝은 생명을 자꾸 키워나가야 하는 것입니다.
어둠은 어둠으로 사라지지 않습니다. 밝음 아래 어둠은 저절로 사라지는 것입니다.
병을 낫우겠다, 나는 살아야겠다, 하는 마음은
자칫하면 집착이요 어두운 마음이 되기 쉽습니다.
우리는 그런 어두움 마음을 거두고
내 생명에 깃든 본래로 찬란한 나의 밝음을 키워 나가는 것입니다.
병의 공성을 관하고
병을 낫겠다는 마음을 거두며
감사하고 참회하며 이웃에 대해 연민의 정을 느끼고 나의 서원을 발하는 것은
밝은 마음이요 내 생명을 키우는 적극적 행위입니다.
그런데 이런 마음을 지어나가기가 쉽지는 않습니다.
평생을 감사 한 번 하지 않고 미안하다는 말 한 마디 못 하고 지내온 분들이
병을 맞이하여 그런 말, 그런 마음을 지어내기란 여간 어렵지 않은 것입니다.
그러므로 이런 마음을 내기 위해 우리는 종교에 귀의해야 합니다.
어떤 종교든 상관없습니다. 내 마음 닫는 종교에 꼭 귀의하십시오.
종교마다 다소 차이는 있지만 대부분의 종교는
감사, 참회, 연민, 서원의 네 가지 요소로 구성되어 있습니다.
그리고 그런 것에 익숙치 않은 분들을 맹렬히 훈련시킵니다.
말과 마음이 그런 곳으로 향하도록 시스템화 되어 있는 것입니다.
그것이 고등 종교의 오랜 지혜의 산물입니다.
가령 불교의 천수경은 경 자체에 위의 네 가지 마음이 다 들어있습니다.
따라서 천수경을 그저 읽기만 해도(초보자는 약 15 분 정도 걸립니다)
우리는 네 가지 마음을 다 발하게 됩니다.
성철 큰스님이 말씀하신 '절하다 죽은 사람 없다'는 말씀도
이 가르침을 이르신 것으로 보입니다.
목숨을 걸어 놓고 하는 절에는, 바로 네 가지 마음이 절절히 다 들어가게 되는 것입니다.
실지로 동양화가 한 경혜양은
어릴 때 뇌성마비로 도저히 몸을 움직일 수 없을 정도였으나,
큰스님의 절하라는 말씀을 죽을 각오로 실천한 결과
이제는 거의 자유로운 몸이 되어 히말라야도 갔다 오는 등
큰스님 가르침의 증명자가 되고 있습니다
(동양화가 한 경혜 저 '오체투지'- 반디 미디어 출판사 간 참조).
또한 기독교의 예배나 미사는
거의 감사, 찬탄, 회개의 요소로 구성되어 있습니다.
그러니 예배나 미사에 참여하는 것이
바로 내 생명을 밝히는 네 가지 마음을 자연스레 연습하는 공덕을 가져옵니다.
고등 종교의 가르침이 다 이러합니다.
아무런 마음 공부를 하시지 않던 분들이
이러한 밝은 마음을 실제로 닦아 나가는 것은,
종교를 통하지 않고는 대단히 힘듭니다.
그러므로 저는 반드시 종교에 귀의할 것을 간절히 권합니다.
종교에 귀의할 때 이미 반쯤은 이뤄진 것입니다.
제 말씀은 여기에서 끝납니다.
제가 드리고 싶은 말씀은 거의 다 드렸습니다.
이제 남은 것은 제 말씀에 동의하시느냐 여부입니다.
선택은 이 글을 듣는 분에게 달린 것입니다.
제 말씀이 일고의 가치도 없다고 생각하시는 분은 저도 어쩔 수 없습니다.
다만 조금이라도 일리가 있다고 생각하시는 분은
꼭 제 말씀을 따르시기 부탁드립니다.
병이란 본래 없는 것!
내 생명은 본래 영원한 것!
병하고는 아무 상관이 없는 것!
부디 많은 분들이 병고에서 벗어나시어
다함없는 찬란한 내 생명 꽃피우시기 發願...

*註:종교의 본래 목적이 [생명을 살리는 것]입니다.
생명을 살리기 위해 종교가 태어난 것입니다.
다만 종교에 따라 생명의 정의, 생명의 한계를 어디까지 두느냐의 차이는 있습니다.
예컨대 생명의 범위를 이 우주 만물, 즉 우리 눈에 생명이 있는 존재뿐 아니라
흙, 바람, 공기, 구름 등 무생물(無生物)까지도
넓은 의미의 생명체로 인식하는 종교도 있고(대표적인 것이 불교입니다),
생명을 단지 고등동물, 또는 인간에게만 국한하는 종교도 있습니다.
그래서 구원과 해탈의 대상이 이 우주 만물에까지 미치지 않고
단지 인간만을 그 대상으로 하는 가르침도 있는 것입니다.
물론 후자의 경우에는 이런 한계성, 제한성으로 인해
많은 문제가 나중에 발생하기 마련입니다만,
어쨌든 이런 차이만 있지 [생명을 구하겠다]는 것은
모든 고등 종교의 공통된 존재 이유입니다.
그러므로 우리는 그것이 언제가 되든 반드시 종교에 귀의해야 하는 것입니다.
더구나 병에 걸리신 분들을 말할 필요도 없겠습니다.
